​European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research​

The European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) was established in 2006 as a non‐profit limited liability company dedicated to the co‐ordination of biomedical imaging research in Europe. EIBIR has its head office in Vienna, at the headquarters of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), which is the main shareholder of EIBIR.

EIBIR currently has over 280 member institutions, two thirds of which are made up by clinical departments and one third by basic science laboratories. The network has the mission to strengthen biomedical imaging research throughout Europe by bringing international research expertise together.EIBIR supports networking activities in biomedical imaging research and is key to spreading good practice, promoting common initiatives and interoperability in the field of biomedical imaging research.

Key Staff

Monika Hierath is the EIBIR Executive Manager. She has 9 years of experience in coordinating and managing international projects and recruiting centres for consortia of excellence (FP6, FP7, COST, EC Tender Projects) and is in charge of running the EIBIR head office in Vienna. She has contributed to the establishment of EIBIR and coordinated a pan-European data collection effort of biomedical imaging research expertise. In addition Monika Hierath heads the ESR department of European and International Affairs since 2007, acts as an international relations advisor to the International Society of Radiology (ISR) and manages the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), which has allowed her to build a considerable network of contacts to political stakeholders, related professional organisations, patient organisations, as well as medical industry at European and international level. Within the GLINT project, Monika Hierath will be in charge of leading dissemination and communication activities (WP 8). She will in particular act as a liaison to the ESR and other relevant EIBIR shareholder organisations in the project.

Katharina Krischak is a project manager at EIBIR. She serves as a project manager on the Horizon 2020 projects GLINT and LUCA (Laser and Ultrasoud Co-Analyzer). Within the GLINT project, Katharina Krischak’s role

is focused on managing the EIBIR contribution to project management (WP 1) and supporting dissemination and communication activities (WP8).
